Namibia Rail Construction is a joint venture between TransNamib Holdings Ltd and D&M Rail Construction ( Pty) Ltd with the objective to build local capacity for the maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of railway infrastructure in Namibia, thereby supporting national development objectives of the transport sector and maximising synergies between the private and public sectors.
TransNamib Holdings is the National Rail Operator of Namibia and was founded in 1988 as a State Owned Enterprise with the takeover of operations and assets from the then South African Transport Services.
D&M Rail Construction has its roots in the founding of D&M Tracks in 1994 to service the railway infrastructure maintenance needs of the Namibian Ports Authority and private siding owners in the Erongo Region. Today, D&M Rail Construction has established itself as the leading railway infrastructure company in Namibia, successfully completing major projects for the private sector, as well as the Namibian Government. A total of 90% of D&M Rail is owned by previously disadvantaged Namibians.
D&M Rail Construction supports the drive by the Government of Namibia to eradicate unemployment by using the minimum mechanical equipment in the construction and maintenance of railway lines, and rather use manual labour.
